I found out last week that I have small bowel cancer (neuroendocrine) that has metastasized to my liver. I am 46 years old. This is a rare cancer with 1 new case per 100K people per year and people are typically diagnosed in their 60s. My wife and I have 3 children, age 5, 12, and 15. I am a Colonel in the Army and in a demanding Command position. I am scheduled to go back to San Antonio to a large military hospital (BAMC) on 23 February for a big surgery to remove a portion of my small intestine, gall bladder, appendix, lymph nodes, and attempt to remove the tumor from my liver. My wife Anastasiya is scheduled to travel with me for 3 weeks but we are going to have to leave our kids and elderly mother in law here in Germany. I won’t know my prognosis until after the surgery. We are scared and trying to seek God through this circumstance. We pray for peace, strength, that the cancer be treatable and I have a chance at survival should He will it. How can this be for His purpose? Why me? Why now?

I’m praying my niece will get plugged into a church where she will be surrounded by reliable and enjoyable Christ followers. Praying she will be motivated to try it out and love to come with her 2 little kids!!
